What is an apprenticeship?
A barber apprenticeship is a structured training program that allows individuals to learn the skills necessary to become a professional barber. It typically involves a combination of on-the-job training and classroom instruction under the supervision of experienced barbers. During the apprenticeship, aspiring barbers learn various techniques such as hair cutting, styling, shaving, beard trimming, customer service, sanitation practices, and business management in a salon or barbershop setting. This hands-on training helps them gain practical experience and knowledge needed to pursue a career as a licensed barber.
How our apprentice program works.
Throughout their apprenticeship, individuals gradually progress from observing to performing basic tasks, eventually gaining the skills and knowledge needed to become a licensed professional barber.
Stage 1: Introduction to Basics (Months 1-6)
- Theory & Fundamentals: Introduction to barbering tools, sanitation, customer service, and basic hair cutting techniques.
- Observation & Assistance: Shadowing experienced barbers, assisting with tasks, and understanding shop operations.
- Hands-on Practice: Basic haircuts under supervision, focusing on foundational skills.
Stage 2: Skill Development (Months 7-12)
- Advanced Techniques: Learning various haircut styles, shaving techniques, beard trims, and more.
- Client Interaction: Gaining confidence in client communication, consultation, and understanding different hair types.
- Practice & Refinement: Implementing learned techniques on a broader range of clients.
Stage 3: Mastery & Specialization (Months 13-24)
- Advanced Services: Mastering complex haircut designs, coloring, styling, and advanced grooming techniques.
- Business & Management: Understanding business operations, scheduling, inventory management, and client retention.
- Final Evaluation: A comprehensive assessment of skills and readiness for independent work as a barber.
